VACANCY: EXECUTIVE OFFICER
DEFENCE SECTION

The Australian High Commission is seeking a suitably qualified expatriate person to fill the position of Executive Officer to the Defence Adviser.

The position is open to Australian citizens only. The successful applicant will be required to have or obtain an Australian security clearance.

The job description for the position is attached. Also attached are the selection criteria that the Interviewing Committee will use to assess applicants' suitability for the position. Applicants must address each of the selection criteria and provide contact details of at least two referees.

Employment will commence once the security screening process has been successfully completed. Subject to the successful completion of a three-month probationary period the successful applicant will be offered a contract of employment up to two years in length. The contract may be extended subject to agreement between the employer and employee.

A monthly salary of Rs 75,906 will be applicable.

Please note that the selection committee may also recommend a merit list of applicants who may be offered to fill this position on an ad hoc basis when the successful applicant is absent.

JOB DESCRIPTION

1. Provide secretarial and administrative support for the Defence Adviser in the Defence Section. Sort and manage the flow of correspondence and other materials. Draft correspondence and other documents as directed and manage/coordinate appointments/transport.

2. Provide administrative assistance in support of official visits, including the preparation of programs. Provide administrative assistance in support of official travel by the Defence Advisor, including financial reconciliation.

3. Undertake research on areas relevant to the Defence Section. In particular, maintain biographical information on relevant persons.

4. Manage classified registry - filing and creating files of classified material for Defence Adviser and creation of new files for Defence section.

SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Demonstrated ability and experience in secretarial and administrative support.

2. Demonstrated ability and experience in aspects of program management.

3. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills of a high order.

4. Demonstrated ability in the use of Excel, Word and the Internet.
