In the speech Mr Smith addressed the issues affecting Indian students in Australia, India’s growing global role, the strategic relationship between Australia and India and the future trajectory of bilateral relations.

Vindaloo Against Violence campaign in Australia

Australian Government Ministers Stephen Smith, Anthony Albanese, Jenny Macklin, Tanya Plibersek and Kate Ellis with Mrs Anandi Venkatesh at the Jewel of India in Canberra on 24 February 2010. The Ministers were taking part in Vindaloo Against Violence, a private initiative which encouraged Australians to demonstrate their support for Australia's Indian community and opposition to racism. Over 17,000 people around Australia are said to have participated in Vindaloo Against Violence.
